About
What this is, and why it's built the way it is.
What it is
A browser-based teleprompter: paste or write a script, adjust the speed, font, and theme to whatever suits the read, then go fullscreen and scroll through it while recording. Built for the same reason most small tools get built: an existing gap between "free but limited" and "full-featured but locked behind a subscription."
Why it's free
It stays free because there's no ongoing cost to give away: no server, no database, no per-user infrastructure. The app runs entirely in your browser and your scripts stay on your own device, so there's nothing on the backend racking up a bill per person who uses it. That's also why there's no account system, no usage limits, and no premium tier gating basic features like speed control or themes.
What's under the hood
- Plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, no framework, no build step
- A frame-rate-independent scroll engine so playback speed stays consistent regardless of your display's refresh rate
- Client-side script import from .docx and .pdf, so nothing is uploaded anywhere to be read
- Phone remote control over a direct WebRTC connection between your two devices
- An installable, offline-capable PWA
Where it's going
Feature requests and rough edges get worked through as they come up. If something feels missing or awkward to use, that's useful to know, even without a formal feedback channel yet.
